Rachel V. Hartley (American/Florida, 1884-1955) 'Three Little Black Girls with Peacocks', watercolor on paper, signed lower left, artist name stamped en verso, Louisiana Art Exchange, Baton Rouge label and receipt en verso, 13 in. x 8.25in. Note: Born into an illustrious family of artists, Rachel V. Hartley was the granddaughter of famed American painter George Inness and the daughter of sculptor Jonathan Hartley. She studied at the Art Student's League in New York City, eventually becoming an instructor. Hartley spent a part of each year in Crystal Beach, Florida where she was a founder of the Clearwater Museum (today the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center). She traveled extensively through Europe, the West Indies and South America.
