Robert Selby (American-Louisiana, 1909-1997), "Shrimp Boats", watercolor on paper, signed lower left "Selby", 12 in. x 16 in. E800 1200 Provenance: Estate of the Artist and descended through the family. Note: The youngest daughter of Hoosier Group artist William Forsyth, Evelyn "Evie" Forsyth only studied art briefly and did not pursue a profession in the arts. After a lengthy ten-year courtship, Evie married fellow art student Robert Selby. After studying at John Herron Art Institute with his future father-in law, Selby enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist. Upon retiring in 1973, Selby settled in Austin, Texas and shared a studio-home with his wife and her older sister, the artist Constance Forsyth. Selby often found Texas hill country and Gulf Coast sources of inspiration for his paintings.
