Douglass' painting was published as an illustration for the story entitled "Something to Live For" in the May22, 1948 issue of the Saturday Evening Post. The story focused on fourwounded World War II soldiers who were having trouble coping with their disabilities. The painting shows the announcement by the nurse of the birth of a child, whose father was a soldier and an above both elbows amputee. The soldiers found a sense of happiness and hope in the birth of the child.
