Robert Wadsworth Grafton (American, 1876-1936, active New Orleans 1916-1920), "Luggars Landing, New Basin Street", oil on canvas, signed and dated "1917" lower left, 20 in. x 24 in. E8000/12000 Note:Indiana artist Robert W. Grafton made frequent visits to New Orleans during the early 20th century. Grafton studied at the Art Institute ofChicago, Academie Julian in Paris and in England and Holland. Often working side by side with his fellow Midwesterner, L.O. Griffith, the two artists collaborated on two horseracing murals for the St. CharlesHotel. Grafton's New Orleans paintings were exhibited in Chicago in 1917 and with Griffith's paintings at the St. Charles Hotel in 1928. This superb American Impressionist view of "Luggars Landing, New BasinCanal" is from the same series as a painting in the Louisiana State Museum.
