Description:
Ronald Davis (American/California, b. 1937), "Moon and Lines", mixed media on canvas board, signed, titled, dated "1983", inscribed "PTG G94" and with "Asher Faure, Los Angeles, LA", label en verso, 18 3/4 in. x 29 1/2 in., in a period frame.
- Notes: Note: Ron Davis grew up in Wyoming and California, and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute (1960-1964). Success found him soon after graduation; he mounted his first show in 1965 at the Nicholas Wilder Gallery in Los Angeles, and had shows at Tibor de Nagy Gallery and Leo Castelli in New York City in 1966 and 1968. Davis¹ brand of California abstract expressionism was an embodiment of the beach and automobile life of Venice Beach. He lived and worked in the artist colony, joining contemporaries such as Ed Ruscha, Ken Price, and Peter Alexander. In 1972 Davis collaborated with Frank Gehry on a "Post Modernist" Malibu studio and residence. He lived and worked from this location until the early 1990s when he shifted his base to Taos, New Mexico. Repeating his proclivity toward collaboration, this time he joined forces with Dennis Holloway and Charley Cambridge. Davis¹ works are included in such prestigious collections at the Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Gallery, London. References: Barron, Bernstein, Dear, Fox, and Rodriguez.
