Description:

Fine American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Center Table, c. 1850-1860, attr. to John Henry Belter, New York, serpentine marble top, reticulated grape and foliate apron with central floral clusters, floral cabriole legs, scrolled stretcher with central bouquet, casters, h. 28 3/4 in., w. 38 1/2 in., d. 27 1/2 in. Provenance: The Service Collection, Estate of Grant A. Oakes, Warren, OH. Ill. Dubrow, Richard. American Furniture of the 19th c., 1840-1880 Atglen, Pa: Schiffer, p. 131. Note: The pierced legs and the highly reticulated apron on this table are indicative of Belter’s most sophisticated work. Most important, however, is the depth and the fulsomeness of the four floral carved medallions centering each of the aprons.
