An American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Center Table, c. 1850-60, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, serpentine marble top, C-scrolled dolphin, eagle, lion and hound supports, scrolled feet, pierced stretchers centering a fruit and flower urn finial, casters, height 29 in., length 42 in., width 32 3/4 in Note: This lot is very similar in form and scale to several known "Rosalie" pattern Belter center tables including those in the parlor at Rosalie, Natchez, in the Hurst, Service and Manney collections. Notably, this example has a complex variation of the carved animal heads terminating the supports. The use of the boar and lion are reminiscent of figural carving while the dolphin and eagle heads recall more Classical motifs. Similar tables have sold in these rooms as lot 116 on April 16, 2002 and lot 268 sold on October 6, 2007.
