American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Library Armchair, c. 1850-1860, attr. to John Henry Belter, in the "Rosalie with Grapes" pattern, foliate crest, scrolled back and arms, serpentine seat, cabriole legs, casters, h. 39 3/4 in., w. 25 in., d. 29 3/4 in. Provenance: The Service Collection, Estate of Grant A. Oakes, Warren, OH. Note: John Henry Belter elaborated on many Rococo seating forms, including fauteuils, recamiers, sofas, and méridiennes. Rare among these forms is the bergère with enclosed arm supports and a high back for use as a library chair, as seen in the lot offered here.
