Fine American Renaissance Gilt-Incised and Bronze-Mounted Rosewood Parlor Suite, attr. to John Jelliff, incl. settee, two lady's armchairs and two gentlemen's armchairs, crest rail ending in scrolled ears centered by portrait bust medallion, curved arms, shaped seat rail, turned legs, casters, settee h. 39 in., w. 68 in., d. 24 in.; lady's armchair h. 22 1/2 in., w. 23 1/2 in., d. 20 in.; armchair h. 38 1/2 in., w. 28 1/2 in., d. 25 in. Note: The distinctive crests, seat rails and legs on this suite are very similar to those on parlor furniture attributed to Jelliff sold by Neal Auction Company as lot 37 Apr. 3, 2004; lot 610, Feb. 22, 1997; lot 740, Dec, 1996; and lot 681, Dec. 1992. A related sofa by Jelliff, once in Frederick Tuttle’s Chicago mansion and now in the Newark Museum (acc. 66.366), has elements closely related to those seen here.
