Note: The "scholar-calligrapher" Ru Gui (original name Le Sheng) has long been admired in international circles for both his calligraphy and his writings on calligraphic theory-the widely acclaimed book, Ten Lectures on Calligraphy, being his most popular literary work. Ru's artistic works have been exhibited in the French Institute of Oriental Art; the National Museum of the Philippines ; the National Museum of China; the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall; the Chinese Revolutionary History Museum; and the Great Conference Hall of the People in Beijing; among other such prestigious institutions. Among his numerous honors, the artist enjoys the distinction of having earned "the special allowance of experts who have made outstanding contributions", a privilege which was bestowed upon him by the State Council of China.
