PLEASE NOTE: Samuel Isham graduated with a B.F.A. from Yale in 1880. In 1901, he traveled to Paris to study at the Académie Julian. He exhibited his work at the Paris salons and at major exhibitions in the U.S. He became a member of the National Academy in 1906. He also wrote The History of American Painting which was considered the best work on the subject during his lifetime.
