Sarah Albritton (American/Louisiana, b. 1936), "Picking Cotton", acrylic on canvasboard, signed, titled, inscribed and dated "June 1965" en verso, 18in. x 24in., accompanied by a letter from the artist regarding painting. E1500-2500 Note: Self-taught Louisiana artist Sarah Albritton is a chronicler of rural life around Ruston. Albritton is also the owner of Sarah's Restaurant. In the painting "Picking Cotton" Albritton shows the many facets of a working farm in southwestern Louisiana. According to Albritton, this painting is about her Uncle Clem's farm; "During cotton-picking time, it would be several of us picking cotton; I really didn't have to pick cotton, but he made me a little cotton sack and I would walk down the row with him putting cotton in my sack, and he would help me out a little and put some of his cotton in my sack." An exhibition of her paintings entitled "On My Way: The Arts of Sarah Albritton" toured Louisiana museums during 1999.
