E300-500 Note: Self-taught Tchula, Mississippi artist Saul Haymond, Sr., was awarded by the prestigious Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in 1995 for his artwork. Earning a living as a mechanic and welder, Haymond began to paint seriously in the mid- 1980s. Drawing from oral histories and his own memories, his paintings depict images of the local history and scenes of life in his rural southern community.
