Sir Cecil Beaton, C.B.E. (English, 1904-1980), Costume design for 'The Watched Pot' depicting the character Mrs. Vulpy, pencil and watercolor, signed and dated '1924' lower right, inscribed lower left 'Mrs. Vulpy', sight 13.5 in. x 9 in., inscribed en verso by Beaton, 1968. 'This costume sketch of Mrs. Vulpy was one of my first theatre sketches. It was part of an ADC production in Cambridge of Saki's.', with Hepburn Gallery London label en verso, Dealers in Theatre Designs. E1500-2500 Note: The Amateur Dramatic Club (ADC) is the oldest university dramatic society in England, founded in 1855. Saki was the pen name of British author Hector Hugh Monro (1870-1916), who was known for his wit and satirization of Edwardian society.
