Sister Agnes Berchmans, nee Julia Alma Landry, (Canada, 1879-1973), 'Abel', oil on canvas, signed, dated '1907' and inscribed 'From a Roman Fresco' lower left, Coggins Collection of American Art label en verso, 60.125 in. x 39 in., unframed. E500-700 Note: Sister Agnes Berchamans was born in Boctoche, New Brunswick to the Acadian doctor Alexander Landry and his wife Genevieve Borque. As a teenager she found her calling and entered the Sisters of Charity. Her artistic talents were recognized by the order and she was sent to Florence, Italy to study with Filadelfo Simi. In 1928, Sister Berchmans began painting a series of large paintings for the convent of the recently built Mount St. Vincent Motherhouse.
