Southern/American School, 19th c., "Dr. James Hyslop (c. 1817-1870)", oil on canvas, unsigned, titled and canvas stamped en verso, typewritten history of sitter en verso, 27 in. x 22 in., in an ornate period giltwood frame.
- Notes: Note: This handsome portrait of Dr. James Hyslop, may have been painted during his honeymoon travels in the South. A graduate of Union College, he joined the staff at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. In 1849, he married Josephine Fletcher (1827-1886) and they had three children Mary Buntling, Josephine Fletcher and Thomas Hyslop.
