Southern School, 19th c., "Portrait of a New Orleans Woman wearing Earrings and Pendant of the Crescent and Star", oil on canvas, unsigned, 14 in. x 11 in., giltwood frame; together with a carved fiddlehead of a cat, found with the portrait, height 11 1/4 in., (2 pcs.) Note: Since 1855 the New Orleans Police Department insignia has been the crescent and star. The sitter's jewelry is likely a reference to her family's association with the police department.
