Description:

Southern School, 20th c., "Live Oak Plantation, St. Francisville", oil on canvas, signed "Kilmer" lower right, 24 in. x 31 5/8 in., framed.

  • Notes: Note: This beautiful plantation home was built in 1809 by Captain Elijah Adams. The live oak alley, for which the plantation is named, and the galleries add a particularly Louisiana feel to a house whose interiors seem more New England in nature, with plain trim decorating the walls and fireplaces. Live Oak was owned by the Barrow family until 1928, the LeSassier family until 1975, and the Turner family thereafter.
