Note: The father-in-law of Carey Hansford Blanchard, whose portrait is also in this sale, Colonel Robert A. Crain was involved in the Sandbar Fight of Vidalia, Louisiana. Crain was fortunate enough to survive the 1927 duel that turned into a deadly fight. His grandson, Newton Crain Blanchard, became the 33rd governor of Louisiana.
