The General Tappan Mixed Woods Writing Desk, mid-19th c., shaped backsplash, rectangular top, shaped apron, fitted with long drawer, bobbin-turned legs joined by stretchers, height 32 3/8 in., width 34 3/8 in., depth 21 in.

  • Provenance: Provenance: Descended in the family of James Camp Tappan (1825-1906), CSA Brigadier General in the Trans-Mississippi Department, 1862-1865. Tappen was commanded by CSA General Leonidas Polk for dispositions at the battle of Belmont; Tappan also led regiments at Shiloh, Richmond and Perryville.
