E1800-2400 Note: Inspired by Lyle Saxon's book Lafitte, thePirate, Fonville made the first of many trips to Grand Isle, Louisiana in 1934 Grand Isle was remote and isolated at this time, and largely accessible only by boat. "Before the Blow" depicts Fonville's father watching an impeding storm as it moves towards the island. Provenance: Descended in the family of the artist.
