Description:

Theodore "Fonville" Winans (American/Louisiana, 1911-1992), "Governor Leche", vintage silver gelatin print, signed and dated "1938" lower right, estate stamped en verso, 4 7/8 in. x 3 3/4 in., unframed.

  • Notes: Note: Richard W. Leche (1898-1965) was elected governor of Louisiana after the assassination of Huey P. Long in 1935 and held office from 1936-1939, when he resigned under pressure from the federal government, from whom he and his cronies had embezzled lavishly from funds intended to fulfill President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal programs. Fonville Winans, who chronicled Baton Rouge's political life for many years, photographed Leche many times.
