PLEASE NOTE: Secrest has been an active and influential member of the Lafayette, LA art community since he relocated to that city to assume a position at the University of Louisiana. As a printmaker for over 40 years, Secrest has always extolled the importance of drawing and of the significant relationship between drawing and printmaking. As the artist himself stated, "From the practice of repeated drawing a personal narrative has generally resulted. Internalized forms, characters and places have become clearly evident to me - personal icons have developed. Repeatedly...such things have taken on special meaning for me. Some may see it as a form of fantasy, but for me it has resulted in forming a personal reality." Reference: Hancock, "Tom Secrest - Exhibition Catalog". Cue Art Foundation. 2008.
