Two Chinese Silk Embroideries, 19th c., the first, a satchel, of oval form picked out in running knot and satin stitch with couched gold thread highlights with lotus blossoms and butterflies on a pale pink silk ground, height 4 7/8 in., width 7 in., framed, overall 8 3/4 in. x 10 3/4 in.; the second, a fragment, of rectangular form, picked out in couched gold and silver threads and running knot stitch with leaves on a salmon silk damask ground, mounted within an embroidered "frame" border, framed, overall 8 3/4 in. x 14 1/2 in.

  • Provenance: Provenance : Estate of Merle Tennyson Montjoy (1920-2008), sold for the benefit of the Mississippi Museum of Art.
