Two James K. Polk (President, 1845-1849) Presidential Porcelain Soup Bowls
c. 1846, made by Edouard Honoré, Paris, white with lobed cavetto with molded and gilded scroll rims, reserved with a gilt scroll medallion, and with the shield of the United States in red, white and blue and the motto "E Pluribus Unum" on a banner, h. 1 ¾ in., diam. 9 ¾ in., one with partially worn Ed. Honoré mark, both with incised "1901/G."

  • Condition: Bowl 1 with partially worn Ed. Honoré mark, incised "1901/G."
    Condition: Chip to foliate scroll at 6 o'clock on rim, a few rim chips to underside of rim. Wear to gilding as consistent with age and usage.

    Bowl 2 with incised "1901/G."
    Condition: Has a 2 ¼ tight hairline crack at 8 o'clock. Chip to foliate scroll at top of bowl. Gilding in reserve very well intact.
