Two Japanese Nishiki Brocade Kesa (Buddhist Priest¹s Robes), Edo Period (1603-1868), Nishijin, Kyoto, the first composed of primarily muted colors with splashes of bright salmon, decorated in nishiki brocade with exotic birds, flowers and trees in various shades of blue, green, salmon, purple and silver, bearing a cloth collection label, #114, assigning it to a Buddhist priest of the Tendai or Shingon sect and dating it to 1776, 44 in. x 79 in.; the second, a deep red color with flying crane, cloud and dragon designs picked out in various shades of pink, turquoise, green, and silver, bearing a cloth collection label, #86, ascribing it to the Tendai or Shingon sect and dating it 1806, 44 in. x 75 in.
