Two Very Fine French Faïence Plates, 18th c., Rouen, the first in décor au sainfoin, with central exotic structure, underglaze blue mark "G 3" for Guillibaud (Guillebaud) factory, c. 1730, diameter 9 1/2 in.; the second with the characteristic décor of the Le Vavasseur factory, central painting of birds on a branch, diameter 9 3/4 in. Reference: For the first, similar decoration is illustrated on a Guillebaud pot of c. 1740, Boone Collection (Los Angeles, 1998), p. 46, color pl. 17 and especially on an identically bordered Guilleaud platter of c. 1730, in the Rouen Museum, Grand Livre de la Faïence Française (Fribourg, 1986), color pl. 93; for the second, ibid., figs. 296, 299, La Vavasseur, c. 1775; and for similar birds painted at Aprey at the same date, ibid., color pl. 251.
