E5000 7000 Note: Victor Nehlig was raised in Paris and studied art with Cogniet and Abel de Pujol. As a young man, Nehlig immigrated to New York City where he established a successful artist studio for twenty- two years. Nehlig specialized in images of the American history and military battle scenes. In these pair of jewel-like paintings of the "Battle of New Orleans " Nehlig captured the danger and intensity as the soldiers on the front lines engaged in fiery battle. The battle fought on the Chalmette Battlefield between the American troops commanded by General Andrew Jackson and the British troops commanded by General Packenham, definitively ended the War of 1812 in the American's favor.
