W. Steve Rucker (Tennessee/Louisiana, b. 1954), "Snake", 1989, mixed media, ceramic and driftwood sculpture, inscribed "W.S. Rucker" and dated on reverse, length 55 1/2 in Provenance: Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, LA. Note: Born in Cleveland, Tennessee, W. Steve Rucker earned his M.F.A. in 1979 from Louisiana State University. In 1981, he joined the faculty of the Art Department at Loyola University in New Orleans where he remained until he retired in 2012. As a ceramic and installation artist, Rucker pushes the limits of traditional craft through well-known works, such as "site specific burns" on the levees of New Orleans where he ignites his ceramic and wood sculptures.
