Description:

Walter Inglis Anderson (American/Mississippi, 1903-1965), "Frogs", watercolor and pencil on paper, estate stamp lower right, "Luise Ross Gallery, New York" label en verso, 10 7/8 in. x 8 3/8 in., framed . Provenance: Luise Ross Gallery, New York, early 1990s Note: Among the varied flora and fauna that Walter Anderson painted in watercolor during his sojourns to Horn Island, his compositions of frogs are among the most successful. The two frogs depicted here are colorfully rendered with Anderson's characteristic style. Painted in shades of blue, green, purple and yellow, Anderson generally used this palette in his depictions of frogs. The work offered here is a fulsome composition, using the negative space to reinforce his bold design.
