Walter Inglis Anderson (American/Mississippi, 1903-1965), "A Study for the Proposed Jackson, Mississippi Court House Mural", c. 1963, oil on trapezoidal wood panel, unsigned, 23 3/4 in. x 10 1/2 in., unframed. Provenance: Estate of Robert T. McKnight, former Director of the Brooks Memorial Art Gallery (today the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art) Note: As part of his efforts for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), Walter Anderson proposed a mural for the Court House in Jackson, Mississippi. A cartoon for the mural is conserved the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The mural project was not completed.
