A French West Indies Purpleheart and Mahogany Petite Armoire, early 19th c., probably Martinique, cove-molded cornice, two doors with shaped and finely figured panels, turned front feet, height 67 in., width 48 in., depth 22 in Note: The small size and refined style of this armoire is typical of the work of Creole craftsmen working in Martinique. A Martiniquan armoire with nearly identical cornice, door panels, and turned legs is illustrated in Connors. French Island Elegance, p. 60.
