Will Ousley (American/Louisiana, c. 1866/70-1953), "Blue Bonnets", oil on canvas, signed lower right, signed and dated "October 31, 1931" en verso, 17in. x 32in., in a period frame. E2500-4000 Note: Largely a self-taught artist, Will Ousley devoted his attentions to the scenic countryside of southwestern Louisiana. Ousley's professional training as an artist consisted of assisting Alsatian artist Erasmus Humbrecht to retouch the murals in the French Quarter's St. Louis Cathedral in 1893. This charming painting depicts a field overflowing with blue bonnets at springtime. Ref: Bacot, H.
