Description:

William E. Plimpton (American, active 1882-1900), "Etaples", oil on canvas, signed, titled and dated "1895" lower left, 23 3/4 in. x 18 in., in a painted wood frame. Reference: Falk. Who Was Who in American Art, Sound View Press, 1999, p. 2623. Note: Plimpton studied with the great French Academic painter Jean-Léon Gérome (1824-1904). He exhibited at the Paris Salon, the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
