- Notes: Note: A leading member of the American Impressionist painters known as the Hoosier Group, William Forsyth was recognized for both his talent as an artist and his ability as an educator. In 1924, Forsyth and his family began spending their summers in the quaint village surrounding Lake Winona in northwest Indiana. The John Herron Art Institute, where Forsyth had taught since 1906 as the principal instructor of drawing and painting, ran a summer landscape-painting program at Lake Winona. With the summer program, Forsyth had the opportunity to paint the local sites including this view of a canal and houseboat.
