William Hart, N.A. American, born Scotland, 1823-1894, Artist, ALS together with accompanying graphite sketch signed and dated 1860, depicting a " Coastal View with Rocky Outcrop". The letter which is addressed to the artist William Holbrook Beard American, 1824-1900 in response to the latter's request to raise funds for the U.S. Sanitary Commission predecessor to the American Red Cross . Having a patriotic pro-Union tone, the letter states "... hoping that nothing may interfere or retard the onward march of Liberty".
