William Posey Silva (Georgia/Tennessee, 1859-1948), "Moss-Garden of Dreams", oil on canvas affixed to board, signed and dated "APL 4/27", annotated "12" lower right, estate label en verso, John Friguliti Studio, Fresno, Calif. label en verso, 8 in. x 10 in., framed. Note: While visiting in South Carolina, William Posey Silva painted the lush tropical grounds of Magnolia Plantation, which he eloquently renamed the "Garden of Dreams". Painting en plein-air, Silva created a series of intimate paintings of the plantation gardens at different times of the day. Apparently, this painting was part of a series by the artist, since it is numbered "12".
