William Woodward (American/New Orleans, 1859-1939), "Old Absinthe House, Bourbon Street, New Orleans", Raffaelli crayon on board, pencil-signed and titled en verso, 13 7/8 in. x 9 7/8 in., in a period giltwood frame; accompanied by a newspaper clipping pertaining to the artist's career.

  • Provenance: A New Orleans Antiquarian.
  • Notes:
  • Note: This very intimate view of the downtown facade of the Old Absinthe House is closely related to the image illustrated in Woodward's French Quarter Etchings of Old New Orleans, plate 22. Interestingly, William Woodward, American Impressionist includes illustrations of four paintings of the historic building. Plate 95, "Old Absinthe House, 240 Bourbon Street", is a large general architectural view of this part of Bourbon Street.
