    Notes:
  • Note: With thoughts of retirement, William and Louise Woodward purchased property at 123 Benachi Avenue in Biloxi, Mississippi, in 1922 The artists found the rural and undeveloped area overlooking the bay a relaxing respite from the city and a worthy subject for their paintings. During the construction of their home, the Woodwards traveled back and forth between New Orleans and Biloxi; since William was confined to a wheelchair, he had his Dodge touring car specially outfitted for him to drive. This beautifully painted impressionistic view of "Benachi Avenue at Back Bay" was completed on one of his many visits to Biloxi during the construction of their new home.
