ZACHARY TAYLOR A Presidential letter by Zachary Taylor (1784-1850), 1845, signed, an important document written in New Orleans dealing with War Department instruction from the President to Commodore David Conner, commanding the U.S. Squadron, Pensacola, West Florida to occupy the western border of Texas, "The instructions, dated June 15, were accompanied by a letter of the same date to Commodore Stockton directing him to active concert with myself and to give any assistance in his power in relation to the transfer of troops....I have the honor to request that our transports may be convoyed by a vessel or vessels of war, if practicable, from the Balize to their destination. I hope to commence embarking by the 20th or 21st-passing out of the Mississippi, say by the 2nd inst.", one page, quarto accompanied by an engraving of Zachary Taylor, 9.75in. x 7.75in. and 10.25in. x 7.5in. respectively.
