Video - Fox 8, New Orleans - Braithwaite -- Plaquemines Parish's oldest standing structure could be yours, if the price is right.  Mary Plantation, built in the 18th century, is about to be auctioned to the highest bidder on March 10.  "It's the highest point we're standing on, terrain higher than the French Quarter of New Orleans," said Neal Alford, president of Neal Auction Company.

Times Picayune Story, New Orleans - Mary Plantation House, whose history dates back more than two centuries, making it the oldest home in Plaquemines Parish and an important example of French-Creole architecture, will be sold at auction Saturday. Among the highlights were two armoires from historic Houmas House in Burnside, Louisiana. A very fine American inlaid cherrywood armoire, c. 1800, (lot 408) sold for $35,650 (est. $10,000-$15,000), and an American classical mahogany armoire, c. 1820, (lot 258) which brought $8,625.

February 8th and 9th, 2003 - Two Southern Regional Paintings Set Record Prices at Neal Auction Company’s Winter Estates Auction
The recent Winter Estates Auction attracted exuberant bidding on furniture, decorative art, and set artist record numbers for two paintings of Louisiana historical significance. The paintings auctioned were: “Star Plantation, St. Charles, Louisiana” by Marie Adrien Persac (French/Louisiana, 1823-1873), active New Orleans, 1857-1872), estimated between $75,000 to $100,000, sold for an incredible $195,000, (lot 321), and “Backyard in Algiers” by Richard Clague (American/Louisiana, 1821-1873), estimated from $100,000 to $125,000, sold for $189,500, (lot 356).

Manheim Galleries’ furniture inventory included a signed Louis XV ormolu-mounted commode (lot 519) selling for $36,800, an English bibliotheque (lot 516) selling above estimated value at $35,650, a Louis XV console (lot 1297) selling for $12,650, and an 18th-century commode (lot 659) selling for $17,250.  Read more >>
