Lot 121
A Fine American Classical Mahogany Extension Dining Table, c. 1810-1820, Baltimore, top with molded edge, drop leaves, plain frieze, ring-turned and reeded legs, oak and poplar secondary woods, height 29 in., extended length with four leaves 151 1/4 in., width 56 in Note: The Baltimore origin of this dining table is indicated by the distinctive legs, which feature pronounced pointed reeding and distinctive ring turnings. Legs combining bold reeding with vase-and-ring turnings are typical of tables made in Baltimore during the late Federal years. The Collection of the Maryland Historical Society includes a games table and a set of dining tables with legs that are nearly identical to those of the table offered here. Both tables are discussed and illustrated in Gregory R. Weidman, Furniture in Maryland, 1740-1940, Maryland Historical Society, 1984, pp. 182-183.
