A Chinese White and Russet Jade Goose and Gosling Group, 18th/19th c., carved as a goose with its long neck turned over its backside to view its young while grasping a lingzhi spray in its beak which the gosling shares, the wings with incised feather details, the webbed feet neatly tucked beneath, height 2 1/4 in., width 2 7/8 in.
- Provenance: Provenance : New York Collection. Note: Like ducks, geese were believed to mate for life, thus two depicted together represent marital harmony, peace and prosperity. A goose paired with a gosling is representative of a marriage blessed with offspring.
