A Fine American Carved Rosewood Shaving Stand, mid-19th c., Alexander Roux, New York, bearing a stenciled label "From A. Roux French Cabinetmaker Nos. 479 & 481 Broadway New York", having an oval mirror with pierced crest, yoke support fitted on a turned stem with pierced brackets, white marble top, single drawer case, faceted support, scrolled cabriole legs with later casters.
- Notes: Note: As a piece of furniture with a specialized purpose, this shaving stand gives evidence to the luxury of the household containing it, as a washstand or dresser could serve the same function. The fact that this stand was produced by Alexander Roux (1813-1886), one of New York's eminent cabinetmakers further elevates its significance.
