A Fine American Late Classical Marble Top Console Table c. 1835, New York, original variegated white marble top above cove-molded frieze fitted with two silver drawers, having elaborate cyma curve and reverse cyma curve supports to the front, back vasiform pilasters, serpentine plinth, scrolled feet, finely matched veneers throughout, height 43 in., width 60 in., depth 23 in. 4000/6000 Note: The distinctive form of this table, related to a sideboard or "huntboard", is not often found in American Classical furniture from New York makers. Historic examples with similar proportions to those seen here are a pair of tables from the workshop of Duncan Phyfe part of the original furnishings of Lewis and Sarah Stirling¹s c. 1834 home at Wakefield Plantation, St. Francisville, Louisiana, and a pair of tables also purchased from Phyfe for the c. 1839 Milford Plantation, house of Gov. John L. Manning, in Pinewood, South Carolina.
