A Fine and Rare American Aesthetic Carved Rosewood, Gilt Incised, Bronze, Silver Gilt and Onyx Mounted Bergere in the Moorish Taste, attributed to Herter Bros., New York, late 19th c., the slightly arched voluted crest with foliate strapwork mount above a shaped inset onyx panel with silver and gilt bronze floral mount, shaped back, scrolled arms, serpentine seat on turned bronze capped feet ending in I.R. Comb Co. stamped India rubber casters by Goodyear #1851. The whole with gilt incised detail and in 'estate' condition, height 32 in., width 32 in., depth 20 in. Note: The vocabulary of the inlay, and design elements of this chair all relate to furniture attributed to Herter Bros; the use of India Rubber Comb co. casters ( marked I.R. Comb Co., 1851, Goodyear) on this chair are also used on known Herter pieces.
