A Fine Louisiana Classical Mahogany Armoire, early 19th c., cove-molded cornice, plain frieze, flush-panel sides and doors with astragal closure, pierced escutcheons, fiche hinges and brass box lock; interior with shelves and a belt of drawers; bold beehive-turned legs, brass ball feet, height 91 in., width 61 in., depth 19 3/8 in.

- Notes: Note: A nearly identical armoire from George Crozat's collection at Houmas House was sold at Neal Auction Company's onsite auction as lot 328, May 17, 2003, and is illustrated in Poesch. "Early Louisiana Armoires", Magazine Antiques, (August 1968) fig. 12, page 205. Another closely related armoire is illustrated in Poesch. Early Furniture of Louisiana 1750-1830. The flush panel doors and sides of this armoire are similar to those seen on numerous Louisiana sources, and exhibit the influence of French cabinetmaking transmitted through the Caribbean into North America.
