A French Faïence Baluster Vase, late 18th c., Sceaux, underglaze blue mark "S P", with delicately painted vignettes of courting couples surrounded by graduated borders of fruits, flowers and leaves, height 10 in. Reference: An identical wreath border around the landscape vignette is shown on a Sceaux plate of the Jacques and Jullien period (c. 1770), in Grand Livre de la Faïence Française (Fribourg, 1986), p. 211, fig. 269; for the mark see Solon, Old French Faïence (London, 1903), p. 184.
