A Large Antique Bronze Plantation Bell, mid-to-late 19th c., Buckeye Bell Foundry, Cincinnati, with decorative foliate collar and iron clapper, height 22 in., diameter 20 in.
- Provenance: Provenance: Discovered in West Feliciana Parish in an area originally part of Egypt Plantation, Alexander Stirling's (1753-1808) extensive 20,000 acre tract, land grant of 1795 ~ Note: Following Alexander's death in 1808, his son Lewis Stirling (1765-1858) inherited Egypt Plantation. Part of West Florida and under Spanish rule, Stirling's home was the site of the meeting which marked the beginning of the uprising that eventually resulted in the Spanish defeat during the West Florida Rebellion of 1810 Later that same year, the area was annexed as part of the United States.
