E300-500 Note: From January 1911 to April 1912, a series of ritualistic murders of black families occurred in Southern Louisiana as well as in Georgia and Texas. Although never proven, the perpetrators appear to have belonged to a small religious sect, which had a possible relationship to Voodoo traditions known as the Church of Sacrifice. At the time, the crimes were suspected to be committed by dark skinned blacks while their victims were largely light skinned and mixed raced blacks.
